

Sir. Shakeel Qureshi
Consultant Paediatric Cardiologist
Sir Shakeel Qureshi trained in children's heart services (paediatric cardiology) at Harefield, Guy's and Liverpool Hospitals. He was first appointed consultant at Liverpool in 1987 and Consultant Paediatric Cardiologist/Senior Lecturer at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust in 1988.
Sir Qureshi's interest are Interventions in paediatric cardiology (keyhole surgery techniques) and in adult congenital heart disease.
Sir Shakeel Qureshi is also involved with earthquake relief work and work in natural disaster affected areas in Kashmir, Philippines, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Haiti, and other medical charity missions with Chain of Hope, of which he is a medical board member.

Sir Qureshi was knighted in 2022 for his outstanding work in Paediatric cardiology and charity work.

Dr. Iqbal Malik
Consultant Cardiologist
Dr.Iqbal Malik qualified from Cambridge University, then Guys Hospital, London. He was appointed as a consultant interventional cardiologist in 2003. He has had national roles for inter hospital transfers, and local roles as the director for clinical governance for the surgery, cancer and cardiovascular division at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust.
Dr. Malik has a special interest in coronary artery disease and helps run the heart attack centre (HAC) at the Trust.
He runs the transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) program.
He has developed the Imperial Cardiac simulation training (ICAST) program to help develop patient safety.

Dr Malik has also set up the PFO, ASD closure and paravalvular leak closure programs at Imperial.

Dr. Mark Turner

Consultant Cardiologist
His clinical interests in the NHS are reflected in the type of patients that he sees at the Spire Hospital, with the addition of patients with medical problems related to diving (SCUBA predominantly). This stems from his service in the Royal Navy when he was a diving medicine doctor at the Institute of Naval Medicine and the Submarine Escape training tank.
Dr. Turner has done extensive research on pacing therapy, particularly for heart failure.

His interests are Patent foramen ovale and ASD closure, valve implantation (TAVI and PPVI), appendage occlusion, Diving medicine, Valvular heart disease, Adult congenital heart disease, echocardiography.
Dr. Antony Hermuzi
Consultant Cardiologist
Dr Antony Hermuzi is a consultant paediatric and adult congenital cardiologist at the Freeman Hospital’s Children’s Heart Unit where he specialises in congenital catheter intervention, transcatheter pulmonary valve implantation, heart failure in congenital heart disease, single ventricle physiology and mechanical circulatory support.

Dr Hermuzi was educated at University of Newcastle upon Tyne. He then trained in paediatrics in the Yorkshire and Northern Deaneries and then congenital cardiology in Newcastle upon Tyne.
​
He undertook additional training in congenital heart disease and cardiac catheterisation at the Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto, Canada (2014-2015) and a post CCT fellowship in congenital catheter intervention at Guy’s & St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust (2016-2017).
​
He was appointed as Consultant Paediatric and ACHD Cardiologist at Freeman Hospital, Newcastle upon Tyne in 2017.
​
Dr Hermuzi is an Associate Clinical Lecturer at Newcastle University, member of the British Congenital Cardiac Association, Association for European Paediatric Cardiology and the Paediatric Interventional Cardiology Early career society.
